The migratory Wodaabe nomads call Chad, Niger, Senegal, Mali and Cameroon their home. In the Fula language, Wodaabe effectively means ‘people who respect taboos’. The Wodaabe people are traditionally
cattle herders, and this is still their main economic activity. They roam across national borders according to the season, on foot or by donkey, dividing into smaller groups to travel so their cattle always have enough to
eat. Chad is uniquely located on one of the transition zones in Africa, with desert in the north, fertile savannah in the south, and the semi-arid Sahelian belt in between.
